NextApp Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2025
Welcome to NextApp (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Your privacy is in fact important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how NextApp (“the App”) handles your data when you download, install, and use our mobile application from the Google Play Store, or other sources. By using NextApp, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Scope & Applicability
- Who this policy applies to: This policy covers all individuals who download, install, or use NextApp.
- Where it applies: It applies to any data you voluntarily provide to or that the App generates on your device, as well as any data that may be stored in any backend you choose to use.
- Updates: We may revise this policy occasionally. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. You are encouraged to review this policy periodically for any updates.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
NextApp has been intentionally designed to minimize data collection. We want you to feel secure that your privacy is fully respected. As a result:
-
No Telemetry or Analytics.
- We do not collect any device identifiers, usage statistics, or behavioral analytics.
- We have disabled all automatic crash reporting, error reporting, and usage tracking.
-
No Location Data.
- NextApp does not access, request, or store your location at any time.
-
No Third-Party Advertising or Tracking SDKs.
- We do not include any software development kits (SDKs) or libraries that transmit data to third-party advertising, marketing, or analytics providers.
Because of these design decisions, there is no background data collection or telemetry happening behind the scenes.
3. Information You Provide & Transmit Voluntarily
Although NextApp does not actively collect information without your knowledge, there are cases where you may choose to provide or transmit data:
-
Authentication via Public Key Cryptography.
- NextApp does not ask for or store any passwords.
- Instead, authentication is handled entirely by public key cryptography: a private key is generated and stored only on your device, and only the corresponding public key is ever shared with the backend server during registration. Because your private key never leaves your device, you retain full control over access to your account.
-
Device Information Sent Upon Registration.
-
When you register or connect NextApp to a backend server (whether ours, another public one, or your self-hosted backend), the App transmits only the following device metadata:
- uuid A unique ID generated by the App for this specific registration. It is used to identify this device and its public key. The ID is not tied to any other information on your device. If you reinstall the app, a new unique ID will be generated.
- hostname Your device’s system-reported name and hostname (if you supplied a custom device name). For Android, this is usually blank.
- operating system and version.
- version of NextApp
- architecture What type of CPU your device uses (e.g.,
arm64
).
-
Important: This metadata is used only to register your device with the chosen backend and to ensure compatibility. It is not used for profiling, advertising, or analytics.
-
-
Choice of Backend & Data Collection.
- You may use any backend server you choose. Our default NextApp backend, any publicly available NextApp-compatible service, or your own self-hosted backend.
- If you choose to run your own backend, NextApp does not collect, store, or transmit any data to us at all. In that scenario, all data flows only between your device(s) and your self-hosted server.
- If you use our default backend, the only data we receive is the device metadata above (for registration) and the data the app stores on the backend (see Section 4). We do not harvest or analyze your content.
- If you use another public backend, we have no say or control over how they process your data. NextApp will only connect to us when you use us as your backend.
-
User-Generated & Synced Content.
-
NextApp is a Getting Things Done (GTD) productivity application. Over time, you may create or store:
- Actions, tasks, projects, notes, reminders, or other productivity-related content.
- Attachments or files that you choose to include in your workflow.
-
All data is synchronized to a backend server. It is stored solely for retrieval by your authenticated devices. We do not harvest, index, analyze, or share your content for any purpose other than delivering it back to you.
-
-
Support Requests & Feedback.
-
If you contact us for support or to report an issue, you may voluntarily share:
- Your contact information (e.g., email address).
- A description of the problem or feedback you wish to provide.
- Screenshots, logs, or other files you choose to attach.
-
We use this information only to assist you, troubleshoot the App, and improve NextApp.
-
4. How We Use Your Information
-
Authentication & Device Registration.
- We use your public key (transmitted via the CSR) and device metadata solely to register and authenticate your device.
- Your private key never leaves your device.
-
Cloud Storage & Sync
- If you opt to use our backend server, that data is stored in a database on secure servers with encrypted disks.
- We use that data only to retrieve it when you log in on one of your devices and it requests a sync.
- We do not analyze, index, or monetize your content in any way. It is returned to you exactly as you submitted it.
-
Customer Support.
- If you reach out for help, we use any information you provide to investigate and resolve your issue.
- We retain support correspondence (e.g., email threads, chat logs) only as long as necessary for quality assurance and ongoing assistance.
-
Legal Compliance.
- We will disclose any data we hold (device metadata or content you’ve synced to our default backend) if required by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order in the European Union. We will notify you unless prohibited by law and will only share the minimum amount of information necessary to comply.
5. Information Storage & Security
-
Client-Side Storage (on Your Device).
- Any data you create locally (e.g., your tasks, notes, or files) is stored within NextApp’s private application storage on your device and synchronized to a backend.
-
Cloud Storage.
- Our Backend: If you choose to use our backend, your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on encrypted disks.
- Your Self-Hosted Backend: If you configure NextApp to use your own server, none of your data is seen or stored by us. All communication is directly between your device and your server of choice.
-
Data Ownership & Access.
- You retain 100% ownership of all data you create or sync, whether it resides locally or in the cloud.
- You can export, delete, or modify your data at any time from within NextApp. If you delete content, it is removed from our servers immediately. Copies may still exist in our backups for up to 90 days.
- The data on your device is updated/deleted in sync with the data in the cloud.
-
No Third-Party Access.
- We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your data to any third parties for marketing, advertising, or profiling.
- The only circumstance under which we might share data is to comply with legal processes (see Section 4.4).
-
Security Measures.
- We implement industry-standard security controls, secure TLS connections, strict access controls, to safeguard your data against unauthorized access.
- Communication between your device and the backend is guarded by signed TLS certificates at both sides.
- We review and update our security protocols regularly.
6. Data Sharing & Disclosure
NextApp follows a strict “zero-sharing” philosophy. We commit to these principles:
-
No Sharing with Advertisers or Marketers. We do not partner with any advertising or marketing companies. Your usage patterns, device metadata, and content are never sold or shared for any purpose.
-
No Sharing with Social Media Platforms. NextApp does not post or share your content to any social media or third-party platforms. Any sharing of your content to other services (e.g., exporting data to Google Drive or Dropbox) occurs only if you explicitly initiate that action from within the App.
-
Law Enforcement & Legal Obligations. See section 4.4.
7. Children’s Privacy
NextApp is not designed for children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately at the address below. We will promptly delete the user account from our systems. Fraudulent claims about such matters will be reported to the appropriate legal authorities.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will:
- Update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document.
- Provide clear notice in the App or via email (if you have configured a backend that stores your contact email), summarizing the key changes to this policy.
Your continued use of NextApp after the revised policy becomes effective indicates your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree with any changes, you must stop using the App and may request deletion of your data.

-
View & Edit Your Data. You can access, review, and edit any data you’ve created (e.g., tasks, notes) through the App’s Settings or Content pages.
-
Export Your Data. If you would like a copy of your data (including materials you’ve stored in our default backend), you can export it from within the App at any time. Exports are provided in two formats: .nextapp for import/export, and .json for easy access and viewing the data in text form. To export data, open the App’s menu and select "Import/Export" or "Export," depending on your platform.
-
Delete Your Account & Data. If you wish to permanently delete your account and all associated data stored on our default backend, go to Settings → Advanced. Enable "Expert Mode." Press "Delete Account." Once you confirm, the data will be immediately deleted in the cloud and on your device. Copies may still exist in our backups for up to 90 days.
-
Opt-In for Any Communications. We may occasionally send you administrative emails (e.g., policy updates) if you have provided a valid email address when you registered your account with our backend. You can opt in to promotional or non-essential emails via settings in the app: Settings → Global "Opt in to receive information...".
Summary of Key Points
- Authentication by Public Key: We never ask for or store passwords. We use public key cryptography: your private key stays on your device; only your public key is sent to the backend.
- Minimal Device Metadata Sent on Registration: When you register with any backend, we send a small set of non-identifying device details (UUID, OS info, device name, App version, etc.), as mentioned above.
- Choice of Backend: You may use our default backend, any public NextApp-compatible backend, or deploy your own. If you don't use our backend, NextApp does not send any data to us.
- No Telemetry, Analytics, or Location Tracking: We do not collect or transmit any usage stats or location data under any circumstances.
- Your Data Is Yours: Any tasks, notes, or other GTD-related content you create or sync remain entirely your property. We do not harvest, analyze, or share it—ever.
- You Have Full Control: You can view, export, or delete your data at any time.
- Secure Storage & Transmission: All data sent to our backend is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (XTS-AES-128 or similar).
Thank you for choosing NextApp. We value your trust and are committed to maintaining the utmost privacy and security for your data.
